During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chengyang District of Qingdao has positioned cooperation with Japan and South Korea as the central focus of its opening-up strategy, establishing itself as Shandong's primary gateway for engagement with East Asian nations and a pivotal hub for regional openness. Nearly 1,300 Japanese and Korean enterprises have put down roots in Chengyang, more than 15,000 Japanese and Korean nationals live and work here, and over 400 Japanese and Korean restaurants contribute to the vibrant international ambiance.
In terms of industrial collaboration, Chengyang has attracted the China-Japan-ROK Business Council Liaison Office and the Korea Agency of HACCP Accreditation and Services (KAHAS) Shandong Representative Office (Qingdao) to establish a presence. It has also built the China-Japan-ROK Fashion Accessories Innovation and Cooperation Park and developed vibrant youth blocks with distinctive Japanese and Korean characteristics. Furthermore, Chengyang is home to Korean educational institutions such as Qingdao Chungwoon Korean School and Qingdao Daewon School, alongside authentic Korean restaurants throughout its urban and suburban areas. This well-developed infrastructure meets the educational and daily living needs of Korean residents, making Chengyang a "second hometown" where the Korean community feels a strong sense of belonging.
On the front of sci-tech cooperation, Chengyang saw the inauguration and operation of the Sino-Korea SME Collaborative Innovation Center, and launched the "Qingdao (Chengyang) International Talent Workstation and Sci-Tech Achievement Transformation Platform". It was also designated as a “2023 Shandong International Science & Technology Cooperation Base,” solidifying the foundation for its global scientific and technological collaboration.
In recent years, Chengyang has achieved a quantitative leap in economic and trade exchanges. More than 60 economic and trade events have been held here, including the Japan and South Korea (Qingdao) Import Commodities Fair, leading to the addition of over 500 Japanese and Korean enterprises. These efforts have injected strong momentum into the regional economy.
